FRUITA, Colo.- Fruita's new Downtown Development Board is nearing completion.

City officials will continue interviewing applicants to fill the 12-person board, which will begin work immediately.

"Their goal is to get as much business owner, building owner and citizen input into the development of the Fruita downtown," said Fruita City Manager Clint Kinney.

Fruita was recently accepted into the Colorado Main Street Program, and will be looking to step up efforts to improve the downtown.

"We've been working up to this for some time, and the last several months we've really put it into high gear," said Kinney.

Representatives from Downtown Colorado Inc. recently visited the small city and met with business and land owners. The organization will help city officials put together a full report, giving the new board the tools for an improved downtown.

"We're hoping to emphasize design, promotion, economic development and organization. Between those four points, the development board will tackle each one of those facets and help improve the downtown," said Kinney.

The new board will have its first official meeting on Oct. 10.
