Fruita Community Center Contributing More Than Expected

FRUITA, Colo.- Fruita's relatively new community center is generating more revenue than expected so far this year.

"We projected to bring in about $684,000 in revenues this year. That was in our 2012 budget. We are actually now projecting to be over $800,000 this year," said Fruita Parks and Recreation director Ture Nycum.

This is good news since management hadn't budgeted for about $84,000 worth of expenses for 2012.

These expenses include primary building maintenance and employee overtime pay.

"We had to make up some funds, but the nice thing is our revenue projections are under what we thought when we went through the budgeting process, and we have the operational revenue to cover the additional operational expenses," said Nycum.

So far this year, the community center has sold over 1,600 annual passes and more than 1,700 three-month passes, which are major contributors to the center's revenue.

Nycum says now that they have additional money, they can invest in new programs next year that will be centered around child care and youth activities.

As far as any budget issues are concerned, officials say they are confident 2013 will play out much like 2012, and no surprise expenditures will be lurking.
