Fruita Accident Sends 5 To Hospital

FRUITA, Colo.- A three car accident in Fruita sent five people to St. Mary's Hospital Tuesday morning.

Colorado State Patrol troopers say around 9:30 Tuesday, a female who was driving a silver car eastbound on J and 2/10 Road hit a white truck heading north on 19 Road.

Officials believe at the four-way stop the female driver did stop but then proceeded through the intersection without seeing the truck.

After the initial collision the truck was pushed into a dump-truck heading south on 19 Road.

The truck then flipped over on its top with three males inside.

"If you're coming to stop signs, especially out here in these rural areas, proceed with caution from the stop sign. That's the way the law is written. Look left, look right, look left again, then look right again if you need to and make sure that no body is coming,"said Chris Wright, trooper with the Colorado State Patrol.

CSP said the five people transported to the hospital had non-life threatening injuries.

Officials say the female driver of the silver car will be cited for failing to yield and give the right-of-way to the truck at the stop sign.

The intersection of 19 and J and 2/10 Roads was closed off for about an hour.

It says she DID stop but then ran into the truck anyway. Here is the quote from the article: Officials believe at the four-way stop the female driver did stop but then proceeded through the intersection without seeing the truck. So it sounds like she stopped, the truck was starting thru the intersection and she started to drive before he was completely through the intersection? How do you miss a big truck like that?

Realist: you may want to read it again. The female driver was in the silver car that ran the stop light.

If it's a 4 way stop how is the female driver at fault? Sounds like the pickup was moving too fast and the female driver didn't take into account that the pickup was not going to stop at the 4 way stop!
