Front Range Rain Causes Mudslides in Burn Areas

by KREX News Room

LARIMER COUNTY, Colo.- Major wildfires on the Front Range followed by heavy rain led to mudslides in the High Park and Hewlett Gulch burn areas.

Officials say the High Park Fire left the Poudre Canyon without grass or brush to hold the soil in place.

Recent flash flooding brought slides of thick black soot, which is polluting the nearby Poudre River.

Residents are helping make sand bags to prevent further damage, and some homeowners have even been evacuated until the area is secured.
