Free Medicare Counseling for Open Enrollment

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. On Monday, the annual open enrollment period for Medicare and the number of people receiving and changing their Medicare plans is increasing in the valley.
The Senior Health Insurance program is hosting free Medicare counseling during Medicare annual open enrollment from October 16th to December 7th.
They are helping people with Medicare coverage options. The new option they're recommending to people is the new stand-alone dental plan that's through the Colorado Health Benefits Exchange.
This is a separate plan and not associated with Medicare and you will have to pay separately.
"We give them the comparisons so they can educate themselves to make a decision for themselves. We don't tell them to take this plan, take that plan, and go with that company or that company. We just give them a list and they look at the list and they make decisions they want to choose for the next year,” said SHIP Project Manager Ruth McCrea.
Other meeting times for counseling are on November 13th, 19th and on December 5th.
The times for the meeting are form 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. and then from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The meetings will be taking place at the US Bank’s lower level, suite 090 on White Avenue in Grand Junction.
Officials say that open enrollment for Medicare closes on December 7 and any changes after that might result in penalty fees.
