Food Bank of the Rockies Moving to Palisade

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies is packing its bags and moving to Palisade.

The move to 119 Bower Ave. will give the nonprofit organization about three times more space than its current 11,000 square foot facility.

"Our current facility, we have totally outgrown it. I have two people that are basically splitting a reception area to have as an office. We have a trailer out behind the building where we're storing non-food items and we have food items stored up and down the aisles," said manager Starlene Collins.

Collins is unsure when the move will happen because the new building needs extensive interior and exterior work; however, she is hoping they will be in Palisade by the end of the summer.

The new building will allow the food bank to store its three new dehydrators in their own room.

The new space will also allow for more programs and a few job openings.

The total cost of the move will be around $1.4 million, but grants and the sale of the old building are expected to offset the cost.
