Turkey Shortage at Food Bank, Donations Needed

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies is running very low on turkeys, and they are looking for donations this holiday season.

Officials from the food bank tell NewsChannel 5 they only have two turkeys that aren't committed to anyone yet, and that won't be anywhere near enough for Thanksgiving and Christmas this year.

Despite teaming up with the Salvation Army again, food bank officials are still asking for the community's help.

"It's usually by this time of the year we've already started to get some turkeys, and so far this year, it really hasn't happened," said Starlene Collins, manager for the Western Slope Food Bank of the Rockies.

Collins says Thanksgiving will be a big holiday for them, but nearly 2,000 families will be depending on the food bank and Salvation Army for the Christmas dinner giveaway this December.

If you would like to make a monetary donation or donate a turkey, officials will be accepting at both the food bank located at 734 Scarlet Drive or at the Salvation Army located at 510 30 Road.

Those interested in donating a Turkey: if you google coupon websites, there is a $3.00 off Coupon for a butterball turkey that you just print out! It might even make it affordable to those who are on the fence! Lets help out and get these families a meal for Thanksgiving and Christmas.(:

Tell them fools to stop bowling with the turkeys and donate them.
