Floating Tree Hits Power Lines, Shuts down I-70

by KREX News Room

Loma - A massive tree floating down the river ultimately leads to authorities shutting down I-70. It happened Thursday afternoon one mile east of Loma.

A tree swept away by the swift-moving Colorado River snagged some power lines that cross both the river and the highway. Xcel Energy tells us it was not one of their electrical lines that was damaged.

Sheriff's deputies were out on boats to keep river-goers away.

The entire highway was shut down for about 15 minutes while crews cut the line.
