BOULDER COUNTY, Colo.- Firefighters are struggling to contain a new wildfire that started Tuesday afternoon, forcing evacuations in the foothills of southern Boulder County. The city of Boulder remains on pre-evacuation orders.

Those pre-evacuation notices have been sent to more than 2,400 phone numbers.

An evacuation point has been established at a local high school. Residents have been warned to take vital records, proof of residency and any pets with them.

Officials say the fire started out at about 6 acres and quickly grew to about 300 acres.

Authorities say they believe lightning started the fire.
