FRUITA, Colo.- Five Fruita High School Students are raising money to help students who need sports equipment or cash for athletic fees and scholarships.

"We needed a service project and since we all play sports, we thought we'd help out kids that also play sports but couldn't really afford it and didn't have the equipment to do it and we just thought of it just to help them out," said one of the founders, Travis Moesser.

Play Back Sports is a nonprofit service that raises money and equipment for those who need it. The organization has raised over $1,000 and has given 40 scholarships with the goal of giving more.

They received a grant from Fruita and Grand Junction Parks and Recreation, and they were also the recipient of the Robinhood Grant, which was $500.

The group is holding a yard sale July 27. They'll kick off the school year with an open house in August where the collected sports equipment will be available to those in need. For more information please contact www.playbacksports@aol.com.
