First Responders Risk Lives In Aurora Shooting

by KREX News Room

AURORA, Colo. - The Aurora police chief praised local authorities on how they responded to the Aurora shooting. The NYPD is sending counselors to assist in helping officers and EMTs who were there.

Responders had ambulances on scene in less than three minutes. Police arrived just before that.

Witnesses say as terrible as this was, had it not been for the responders who were at the scene, the situation could have been much worse.

Aurora Police Chief Dan Oats said his staff members are doing everything they can. Oates received a call from the NYPD Saturday. They said they were sending over special counselors who assisted with the trauma experienced after 9/11.

Officials say charges will be handed out by the state of Colorado, not the federal government.
