Firefighters Train to Battle Uncommon Threat

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Grand Junction Fire Department battled a blaze Tuesday with flames rising as high as 35 feet in the air.

Firefighters fought the uncommon propane blaze in the parking lot of Fire Station 3 just off of 25 1/2 Road.

Training instructor Mike Gazdak said, " We don't get a lot of fires from propane. It's a pretty safe gas to use. That's an important reason to train in something we're not used to seeing, so we're really taking this opportunity to give people a little training and education in this area."

Fire officials say this type of training scenario can help keep firefighters prepared for the unknown dangers they could face while on a call.
