Fire Temporarily Closes I-70 Lane

MACK, Colo.- It was slow going for some motorists on westbound Interstate 70 Tuesday night as crews fought a fire near the highway.

Just before 7:30 p.m. members of the Lower Valley Fire District responded to mile marker 7 due to reports of a weed fire.

Officials say the fire was one to two acres and very close to the highway.

Although the Colorado Department of Transportation originally reported that all westbound lanes of I-70 in that area had been shut down, fire officials say only one lane was closed to accommodate firefighters working on the shoulder.

It took crews about 30 minutes to put out the fire. No injuries were reported.
