Fire Bill Receives Unanimous Approval in Senate

by KREX News Room
by Kristina Kuestner

DENVER(AP)- A bill approved Tuesday would have a new set of safeguards for state prescribed forest fires in Colorado.

The bill received unanimous initial approval in the State Senate.

The Lower North Fork Fire was started by a state-set burn that went out of control killing three, last March.

Changes to the fire protocol would include new training for burn managers and new requirements to keep blazes from going beyond the intended area.

One more Senate vote is required before the bill heads to the House.
