Fire Ban Lifted for Several Western Slope Areas

by KREX News Room

MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Recent rain has increased humidity and vegetation moisture, which has prompted the lifting of fire restrictions in several areas of the Western Slope, including Mesa County.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Department, and the Fire Chief's Association will jointly remove the ban on Friday.

The removal will happen in coordination with the county's federal partners, who have also been under a Stage 1 fire ban.

The fire ban will also be lifted on Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service land in the Grand Junction area.

Garfield County will also follow suit.

Although restrictions are being lifted, officials want to remind residents that the area is still experiencing an extreme drought.

Folks should continue to use caution when burning or using fire outdoors, especially in heavily forested and grassy areas.
