GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Pro-amendment 66 rallies took place statewide Saturday, including in Grand Junction.
The events around Colorado were called Back Our School's Day and were put on by Colorado Commits to Kids.
Members of the community and some teachers were among the 15 or so people who arrived to support the proposed amendment.
“This is a necessary tax to actually bring funding back to education. We have been cutting millions and millions of dollars, by doing this it automatically goes into the state education fund where it can't be taken out,” says local middle school teacher Kevin LaDuke.
School District 51 says they have a neutral stance on the issue, but all of the candidates running for the school board that NewsChannel 5 spoke with oppose the amendment.
The amendment will be on the Nov. 5 ballot.
