Fee Waiver Helps CMU Rodeo Team Bring Show to Town

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- For the first time in over 12 years, the Colorado Mesa University Rodeo Team will host their very own show.
After some reluctance, the Mesa County Commissioners passed a full rental fee waiver request from the CMU team for the use of the Mesa County Fairgrounds.
The students received a 40 percent discount from the fairgrounds but since they've had such a large amount of people join their group, they still can't afford the over $2,000 fee.
They’re happy to receive the funds and say the event will draw in 200 contestants to the area.
“Rodeo is a very family oriented sport,” said Haillie Taylor, member of the CMU Rodeo Team. “It brings in a lot of money to every city they go to. Rodeo is a big deal, it’s a big sport and it takes a lot of money to travel down the road.”
This is a one time fee waiver and the rodeo team plans on working off the money by the end of the year to compensate the tax payers.
The rodeo will be April 12th and 13th.
