GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo.- The Colorado State Patrol says a 26-year-old man was killed Wednesday morning near Rifle when his car crashed into an SUV.

An Acura Integra was heading northbound on Garfield County Road 319 at mile marker 2 when the driver lost control and collided with a Jeep Cherokee.

The driver of the Integra was pronounced dead on scene.

The driver of the Cherokee was transported to Grand River Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The names of the involved parties are being held pending notification of the families.

Officials say the cause of the crash is still under investigation, but excessive speed is being considered a possible factor.

Officials say the driver of the Jeep was wearing his seat belt, but the driver of the Acura was not wearing his seat belt properly.
