JOHNSTOWN, Colo. (CBS4) – The man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 16-year-old Johnstown girl made his first appearance in a Weld County courtroom Friday afternoon.

David Calderon, 38, is being held on a $200,000 bond. Outside of the courtroom Calderon’s family came to his defense.

“My brother is a very strong person, he’s very good person. We don’t understand what is going on. We’re all devastated, we’re all confused,” Calderon’s sister said. “This has been a mess for all of us and for this little girl to just come in and out of nowhere and do all of this to hurt us in this way. When she has had previous runaways, I just don’t get it.”

According to the arrest affidavit, the victim told police she was approached by Calderon’s vehicle while standing outside Hay’s Market in Johnstown. When he asked her for a lighter he grabbed her and pulled her inside of his vehicle. The victim told police Calderon drove her to his home and threatened to “hunt her down” if she tried to run.

During the nearly two days she was with Calderon, the victim told police he hit her, threatened her with a gun and touched her inappropriately. The 16-year-old also told police Calderon took her to what she believed were drug deals in Fort Collins and Milliken.

In the affidavit, Calderon denies kidnapping the victim and holding her against her will. He told police the victim willingly got inside of his vehicle and went to his home.

Calderon also denied hitting the victim and said the victim told him she was 18.

Johnstown police told CBS4 no other information on the investigation will be released until Monday.
