GRAND JUNCTION, Colo - Family and friends gathered at St. Joseph Catholic Church today to attend the funeral of former Grand Junction High School Baseball Coach Bill Fanning.

On February 8th, Fanning passed away at the age of 91.

The legendary coach led the Tigers baseball squad for 35 years, where his coaching ability made a lasting impression on players, both on and off the field.

"He touched my life, helped me grow up," said former baseball player Mark Brown. "As a 15 year old sophomore, when he said, "Hey, I'd like you to play some varsity ball," it was a very uplifting experience for me."

Fanning earned his three state championships in 1961, 1962 and 1971.

At one point, Fanning's team won 43 consecutive games, including an undefeated season in 1962.

Fanning is a member of the National Sports High School Hall of Fame, as well as the Colorado High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
