by KREX News Room
by Danielle Kreutter

MONTROSE, Colo.- NewsChannel 5 spoke with the family of 86-year-old Dorothy Meaker on Monday. They say she died after she was bitten by a mosquito carrying West Nile virus.

"She's had six cancers in her lifetime and it was a mosquito that actually ended her life, so it's a little ironic there," said Deb Meaker, Dorothy Meaker's daughter-in-law. "In our summers, and we've experienced a lot of humidity, who can wear long sleeves and long pants all summer long ... It's impractical to put DEET on every single day for five or six months out of the year."

The Montrose County Coroner's Office has not yet confirmed Meaker's official cause of death.

Dear confused, West NIle was indeed the cause of death!the point of the story might just be that some spraying needs to be done to prevent this from happening to another family. This is your typical news reporting trying to stir up controversy with their headline.

I am not sure what the point of this news article is. Of course it is sad that the family lost their mother. But why is KREX reporting it as a news item... West Nile Virus has not been confirmed as the official cause, there is no point to this story.
