GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Hiking and biking trails are now being planned for the newly acquired Three Sisters property, and members of the community can finally get their hands dirty helping out with the project.

The Mesa Land Trust successfully purchased the Three Sisters property and has since given it to the city of Grand Junction.

Trail building was almost impossible because of the hot summer and dry conditions, but officials say now that the land is receiving moisture, they are able to start building trails.

"The trail building on the sixth will be the start of a number of trail building days over the next few years, and we're going to gradually develop trails on this property and open it to the community," said Rob Bleiberg, executive director of the Mesa County Land Trust.

"The really exciting part is that this first trail is going to be the extension of Kids Meal, and kids and families are going to be building the trails," said Libby Collins, coordinator for the Three Sisters Project.

If you'd like to help build the newest Three Sisters trail on Oct. 6, you can register at copmoba.org.

All tools will be supplied for volunteers, who can show up as early as 9 a.m.

At 3 p.m. there will be a barbecue and raffle for the volunteers.

This project and the so called 3 sisters area is ILLEGAL as it is not zoned for recreational purposes. It is zoned for housing. This project must be stopped as it is ILLEGAL!!
