Entrepreneur Announces Run for GJ City Council

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Another candidate, local entrepreneur Duncan McArthur, announced Friday his run for the Grand Junction City Council, District E seat, currently held by Teresa Coons.

McArthur began canvassing Friday, gathering signatures and speaking with local businesses on issues they would like to see the city address in 2013.

McArthur tells NewsChannel 5 he's concerned about the council's spending in the past few years.

Although revenue is up, he says there are still indications that the local economy has not completely recovered, citing the rise in Grand Valley foreclosures in 2012 over 2011.

McArthur says if elected, he will be a fiscally conservative leader, but still push for capital improvements that the city's residents have voted on, including the Beltway project.

"This city has a major investment already in the 29 Road Bridge, in connection to Riverside Parkway. completion of that beltway, the city's committed to and I think people want to see that," explained McArthur.

McArthur is a government affairs consultant for the Realtors Association and the Western Colorado Contractors Association, among others.

Also a political consultant, McArthur says he's been actively involved in various city and county committees and has been closely following Grand Junction city council meetings for the past eight years.

Coons is term limited. McArthur faces Robert Noble and Harry Butler for the District E seat in April.
