Encana Donates to Community Garden

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Encana handed over a generous donation to local Boy Scouts Friday, to continue their efforts with the Community Garden right outside the KREX studios.

The corporation’s donation of $1,000 to the Boy Scouts will help them prepare, plant and maintain the newly constructed site.

“This is a great opportunity for us to be able to support youth and get them outside and do something that's productive,” said Sandy Kent of Encana.

For one Boy Scout, this means a lot. “I’ve gone this far. I’m one rank away from Eagle,” said Ian Hegstron. “I've been in this troop for around 4 years and the Boy Scouts is just one of the best things that has ever happened to me.”

Hegstron is in Troop 303 and is leading the project. After he completes 120 hours of community service developing the garden, he will officially be an Eagle Scout.

"I think by the end I will be a different person and I will be a lot more of a leader than I was before," said Hegstron.

Some things in store for the garden are apple, pear and plum trees, as well as a vegetable garden. Officials say once the fruits and vegetables are ripe, the community will be free to come and harvest anything they want.

The Boy Scouts plan on planting very soon and hope to finish by July.

Just trying to distract from all the death and destruction they've caused. Disgusting company.
