Electronic Waste Banned from Being Trashed

DENVER - Beginning July 1, Colorado residents will no longer be able to dispose electronic waste in their household trash.

Thanks to the Electronic Recycling Jobs Act, Colorado landfills no longer accept "e-waste." The new law encompasses all forms of electronics, including any device with a screen larger than four inches.

Officials say this will help ensure the safety of our environment, as well as residents.

"There are components inside of electronics that are deemed unsafe when not used as intended, [for example] Mercury and other things that are taken to containment facilities to be properly disposed of," said Willard Pease with U.S. Tech.

"We remove the lead, remove the cadmium, remove all the bad chemicals so that we can put them in the right use to bring them back into new components," added Ken Burns, CEO of E-Waste Recyclers of Colorado.

Officials say besides recycling electronic items, consumers can donate or re-sell working devices.

However, officials say it's important to wipe the device clean of any personal data beforehand.

And what wil be the next thing, tennents will leave, for the landlord to clean up. Thank God, There's a dumpster close by !
