OMAHA, Neb. (AP)- An index ranking economic conditions in 10 midwestern and western states, including Colorado, shows an increase for a third straight month.

The overall Rural Mainstreet index, covering areas of Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming, rose to 57.5 in November from October's 56.6.

Any score above 50 on the 100-point scale suggests a growing economy.

The same can not be said for the confidence index, which relects expectations for the economy six months out.

Experts say the looming "fiscal cliff" and and the lack of federal farm and energy bills has hurt the confidence index. It sank to 45.6 from October's 50.7.
