Echo Mountain Ski Area Sold

IDAHO SPRINGS, Colo.- The Echo Mountain ski area has been sold at auction to a company planning to turn it into a ski racing and training center.

Pykkonen Capital LLC bought the property west of Denver and plans to form the Front Range Ski Club in November.

The company says Echo Mountain is one of the few ski resorts that sits entirely on private land, allowing more flexibility over operations.

The ski area west of Denver had decent snow and strong ticket sales this past winter, with revenue climbing 30 percent and daily ticket sales up 50 percent.

Former owner Jerry Petitt says the sale announced Wednesday will provide more money to help the ski area continue to grow.
