Early Season Snow in Colo. High Country

by KREX News Room

EAGLE COUNTY, Colo.- Monday morning brought snow to many areas of Colorado's high country, and the flakes are providing encouragement to eager skiers.

Loveland and Arapahoe Basin have a race to see who can open their resort first each fall.

Copper Mountain officials sent an employee to the top of the mountain, where he measured about 3 inches of snow.

"Early season snow and low temperatures really mean a ton for Copper. It prepares the ground for the snowmaking we are going to produce to be susceptible to that snow," explained Austyn Williams.

Officials with Loveland say they are a few weeks away from firing up their snowmaking guns.

Arapahoe Basin plans to start snowmaking once temperatures are consistently lower.

Arapahoe Basin opened first last season, on Oct. 13.
