GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Grand Junction Fire Department started their week off with a busy morning on Monday.

Around 2 a.m., fire crews responded to a possible chimney fire at 604 N. 7th street in Grand Junction.

When the first crew arrived on scene, the home owners believed they had the fire out. However, after an investigation, the fire department discovered there was still a blaze in the basement of the home.

Officials say the fire was caused by the chimney itself as there was accumulated debris that caught on fire.

Everyone escaped safely and damage was limited to the basement.
