GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. On Monday, the Mesa County Public Library hosted an event for teachers, parents and therapists to get to know more about dyslexia.
The Dyslexia For a Day event provided information to those interested in knowing what a student and or child goes through with the disorder.
The event had two different simulations providing a hands-on look to what dyslexia is really like. One simulation was a written test and the other was a verbal test.
Organizers say the main misconception people have about Dyslexia is that they think it's just turning letters backwards when you write however, it's much more than that.
“It's the way the brain takes in sounds the way it takes in the writing stuff you see on a piece of paper and being able to have it go through the brain and out back through the mouth correctly,” Cheryl Gaines, Decoding Dyslexia, Co.
Organizers say 6.2 million children in the United States have been diagnosed with dyslexia.
