Driver Rescued 12 Hours After Crashing into Eagle River

by KREX News Room

Eagle County - One man suffered a broken right leg early Saturday morning when his Ford Explorer crashed and then rolled in the frozen Eagle River in between Eagle and Wolcott on US Highway 6. The driver, 29-year-old Daryl Rudolph of Littleton, crawled to safety on the river bank, but he waited there approximately 12 hours before a passerby spotted him around 2:00 PM Saturday.

Rudolph was transported to Vail Valley Medical Center with what are considered to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Alcohol and/or drugs are being investigated as possible contributing factors in the crash. The weather was clear and the roads were dry, and it is unknown whether Rudolph was wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash.

The Upper Eagle Valley Water and Sanitation District was notified of the incident. The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office, Eagle Fire, the Western Eagle County Ambulance District, Lucas Towing and the Colorado State Patrol responded to the scene.

During this holiday weekend, the Colorado State Patrol would like to remind motorists to designate a sober driver and keep the Colorado roadways a safe place for everyone.
