Dozens Participate in ‘VA2K’

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Dozens of people found themselves, running walking or rolling through the finish line of this year's VA2K.
The purpose of this “Walk and Roll," is to both raise awareness of the health benefits of living an active lifestyle, and to raise funds to meet the needs of the homeless veterans.
Currently, the VA Center houses 140 veterans and their families.
“This is a way to give back to them for transportation, for bus passes, and food vouchers,” said Lisa Strauss, coordinator of the homeless program. “Because we provide the housing but sometimes it’s not enough to make it to the end of the month.”
“I think it keeps the awareness of the situation in front of people's eyes,” said Mary Sonneborn, participant. “So they don’t forget and its fun. You could have fun when doing good things.”
It’s the second time the VA held the event.
