GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A fire broke out on 211 Grand Avenue Tuesday afternoon, which blocked off a portion of Grand Avenue for over an hour.

Grand Junction Fire officials say seven units and 20 personnel responded and were able to extinguish the fire in about 15 minutes.

The fire had extended into the attic and into the interior of the home, which crews got under control quickly.

One gentlemen and a dog were inside the home when the fire started. Officials say Sergeant Dave Oswalt from the Grand Junction Police Department was in the crime lab vehicle near the home when he noticed the fire and responded to the scene.

The occupant was not aware of the fire when he was notified by Oswalt.

The male and a dog made it out safely with no injuries.

Officials say the damage to the outside of the home is significant. They say there's moderate damage to the interior and the attic.

Crews were able to keep the damage to a minimal for the house next door where the exterior part of the home caught on fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it appears to have started outside.

The couple living in 211 Grand Avenue will be displaced, Red Cross has stepped in to help.
