CPW Moose Relocation Project Deemed a Success

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The latest numbers are in from Colorado Parks and Wildlife concerning the moose relocation project on the Grand Mesa; the project has been more than a decade in the making.

Wildlife fficials say after starting the transplant of 91 moose to the Grand Mesa in 2005, the numbers have grown to 400, which was the original goal.

"People saw the opportunity to have a magnificent, very interesting species, that being moose, also in Colorado," said Mike Porras of Colorado Parks and Wildlife. "It just added to the wide variety of wildlife that we have in this state, and it's a great addition and we're glad to see they're doing very well."

If you'd like to learn more about the moose relocation project, officials will be holding a "State of the Moose" presentation this Wednesday at the regional office located at 711 Independent Ave.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. It will cover the history and progress of the project, as well as future moose hunting rules to help control the population as it continues to grow.

Just a couple weeks ago the DOW said 350. I don't think they have increased by 50 already.
