Distracted Driver Crashes into Prospector Motel

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Authorities say a case of distracted driving left one business owner with a huge hole in the side of his building.

NewsChannel 5 was first on the scene where a car crashed into the office wall of the Prospector Motel.

Grand Junction Police officials say a woman was heading west bound on Highway 50 in her silver Mustang when she dropped a cigarette, went to go pick it up and when she looked back up she said it was too late to correct the car.

She crossed the highway, crashed through three fences and into the motel.

The owner was inside when the car crashed through the wall.

"Oh my god, I've got a gigantic gaping hold in my kitchen wall. The motel that I've been working on almost non-stop for the last month to get cleaned up looks like a disaster area," said Brenden Stewart, owner of the Prospector Motel.

Fortunately no one was injured.

A few surrounding residents were left without power because of the crash but Mesa County building officials were on scene assessing the damage.

"There is no such thing as a small distraction when you are behind the wheel of a car," said Stewart.

How can people who don't have license or insurance get away with this kind of stuff more than once due to being too high on pills. Narcotics, and were worried about Pot. Really, if it were me, I'd be in jail, but it wouldn't be me. Glad everyone is safe though. Next time might not be so lucky.
