FRUITA, Colo. - Forget the dog days of summer. For many Fruita residents, it's the Dino Days of summer. This weekend Dinosaur Journey Museum in Fruita is celebrating its 26th Dinosaur Days with dozens of events the whole family can enjoy.
Officials with the museum say hundreds of Western Slope residents have already come out to get in on the fun.
"We have puppet shows, magic shows, T-Rex eating contests, fossil digs, fossil painting, fossil making, a dino labrinth, a dino toss, a dino slide and jump house and also we have a fashion costume. You can be painted up hair and face to look like a dinosaur," said Peter Booth, executive director of the Museum of Western Colorado.
The activities kicked off this morning with a Fruitadens 5K Family Fun Run and continued with Dinosaur Days expedition quest.
