FRUITA,Colo. As the winter season approaches, many athletes took advantage of warmer temperatures on Sunday.
The 2nd annual Desert's Edge Triathlon was held this weekend in Fruita.
The two day event featured sprint and Olympic triathlon races that included a 750 meter swim, 13.2 mile bike ride and a 5k run.
One competitor was very surprised about his results.
"So on the run, I was running, I have to keep this, maybe I can catch up to them. And I crossed the line. Everyone came up and some people shook my hands, alright this is nice. And about five minutes later, my friend came up to me and said, you won, really? That's fantastic!” said Christopher Schroeder, racer.
Top place finishers received plaques and medals.
Race directors say more than 400 racers were in attendance.
