Delta Moratorium on Pot Shops Passes First Hearing

DELTA, Colo. - Delta City Council members met Tuesday night to take action against how Amendment 64 could affect them.

They had their first hearing of a new bill that would implement a moratorium of commercial marijuana shops in the city.

After Amendment 64 was passed, Delta City staff drafted the moratorium which passed it's first reading Tuesday night in a unanimous decision.

If implemented, the bill would ban pot shops within city limits for the next nine months.

"The City Council is going to wait and see what the state does first and foremost and consider the landscape at a later date when there's a little more clarity to the entire situation regarding Amendment 64," said Justin Clifton, Delta City Manager, "at that time the council could direct staff to bring back another ordinance that would prohibit it permanently or take any other action it deems appropriate."

If approved after the second hearing the bill will take 30 days to go into effect.

The second hearing for the new ordinance is scheduled for December 18's City Council meeting at 7:00 p.m.

ITK if the fringe of society in Colorado is 55% of the populous of the State I wouldn't call that a fringe movement, I would call that a land slide. Also you must be way Ill informed if you think that other Countries that have legalized drugs have fallen apart, you are totally wrong. Has Columbia fallen apart, has Portugal fallen apart, has Holland Spain or the newest Country Uruguay collapsed! Know I don't think so, and as far as regulations on cannabis you asked about what the hell did we just do? We passed the Regulate Marijuana like Alcohol Amendment, now did we not. Your arguments are as lame as the ones used for the inception of prohibition in the first place, total lies and total denial of facts and truth, but that's how your kind roll right!

So now we are going to argue about hemp? The point I see here is Amendment 64 was voted on by the fringe of society who are interested in one thing, the unfettered use of drugs. You can bring up all of the so called benefits you want, but it doesn't over shadow the truth. Any and all society's who legalize drug use fall apart. These towns are simply exercising their right to not allow the problems drugs bring. So let me ask this, would you be upset about stricter laws about abuse of pot?

In the Know, you are right this forum is about pot and amendment 64, however what you fail to see is that 64 not only allows for recreational cannabis it also legalized HEMP! Farmers could benefit by growing hemp on the Western Slope, it would bring prosperity to an otherwise lagging economy in these Counties. However by putting a moratorium on A-64 you have neither now do you! These towns that are knee jerking this amendment fail to realize they are hurting everyone by their one sided argument of we don't want it but failing to see the economic benefits of growing something that we import 100% from other Country's, that would be HEMP! If you knew this you have no reason to want to ban what A-64 brings. Tell me ITK, whats your problem with HEMP? I really don't care what your problem is with cannabis since we can all grow our six plants weather these Counties ban it's sales or not! It's like cutting off you nose to spite your face, or stupid is as stupid does right.

See the problem is that I do love this country. I love it enough to see that our current administration is destroying it. This is all completely off topic. This forum is about pot and a towns right not to sell it. I applaud delta for standing up and not being pressured by the masses.

In the Know, you must be one of the folks that want to secede right! You must think because Obama didn't win in Mesa County he's not your president too right? Folks like you need to spend some time in a war zone or two, get shot at, sleep in the mud, maybe sacrifice a little for this great Country instead of all this BS and hate you spew about Obama! Obama will go down in history as one of the greatest presidents this nation has ever had. On the other hand the Republicans will be history in the near future and thank god for that! I put my life on the line more than once so you can talk sh*t like you do, how about a little respect for those of us that actually fought and died for this Country. Unlike you I am a proud American that loves his Country! If you don't want to be an American, get the hell out please.

We don't need the government to give us free pot,all we need is a little sunshine, a little water, and some soil and we have free cannabis. They way God intended!! There's the problem, if its all free then the rich who are in charge won't make their billions.

I was at the Veterans hospital today for an appointment and when getting my travel pay at the pay window I asked Ed the Mayor of Delta who works the window what was going on with this vote on the moratorium. He told me in a very stern manner that Delta didn't want those shops, when I replied that it would hurts veterans that live in Delta that use cannabis and 6000 folks in Delta County voted in favor of A-64! His reply was that the vote did not pass in Delta County and that the only reason it passed at the State was the people on the front range voted it in and I should move there. Well Ed, Obama didn't win in Delta County either, does that mean he is not your president? This is so typical of the Republican mentality of hate, obstruct and BS anyone they can to get what they want! Delta, I'm ashamed you are part of Colorado! Maybe you should secede from the State if you don't want to live by the State law.

Pot is going to be in Delta same as it has always been. The difference now is that is is legal according to Colorado law. The old guard in Delta county will just have to get used to the fact.
