Delta Education Officials Investigate Alleged Gun Brought to School

DELTA, Colo.- Education officials in Delta will decide if a student accused of bringing a loaded gun to school will be expelled.

On Wednesday, police responded to Delta Middle School on a report of a student possessing a handgun.

Officials say they later found the loaded gun at a location that was off school property and placed the student into protective custody without further incident.

An assistant superintendent with School District 50J says he can't comment on this particular incident, due to the ongoing investigation.

But he tells NewsChannel 5 that in these types of situations, district policy allows for due process with an automatic expulsion hearing.

According to policy, if it's proven that a student did indeed bring a weapon onto school property, then the student will be expelled.
