Delta Finally Gets Fireworks Celebration

by KREX News Room
by Amanda Brandeis

DELTA COUNTY, Colo.- Fire restriction lifts meant good news for Delta County. On Saturday the Delta County Fire Department put on its annual fireworks show for the community.

Communities around the Western Slope were left celebrating the Fourth of July in other ways due to the early summer fire hazard. Recent wet weather has turned that around.

NewsChannel 5 was there as firefighters set up the show Saturday. They began setup at 8 a.m.

Without their hard work and preparation, the spectacle wouldn't have been possible. Ron Myers, a Delta County firefighter and also the electronics team leader for the show, said, "We have about a 1,000-foot safety perimeter here. Our main goal is safety. We put on a safe show and everyone walks away. That's the biggest part of it."

The fireworks were held at Confluence Lake. The show was funded through donations received from the public.

I was there as well. Delta ALWAYS puts on a great fireworks show. Not only that, it's not a quick show; nearly every year, the show in Delta lasts between 35 to 45 minutes. I always look forward to watching the fireworks in Delta every year.
