Deadly Rockslide Prompts Air Rescue Near Aspen

PITKIN COUNTY, Colo.- A rockslide near Aspen left one person dead Saturday.

Pitkin County authorities say the rockslide happened Saturday afternoon near Hagerman Peak in the Elk Mountains.

The Mountain Rescue Aspen Team was able to reach the party of five hikers after receiving reports that one of them had sustained serious chest injuries.

That hiker was pronounced dead upon arrival. A National Guard helicopter airlifted the other hikers out of the area. The recovery of the deceased victim is being led by the Gunnison County Coroner.
