Dan Vs. Wild: Survival Edition

MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Fall in Colorado is a great time to go out and explore the great outdoors.

Temperatures are cooler and the changing leaves provide some spectacular scenery, but the new season also comes with a whole new set of challenges.

Days get shorter and comfortable afternoon highs can give way to frigid overnight lows, and the volatility of Colorado's weather is legendary.

Getting stuck in these ever changing elements is a challenge and something that should be taken seriously.

The key to survival starts before you even head out into the wilderness, and district wildlife manager Frank McGee preaches this mantra: "Plan your hunt and hunt your plan."

Make sure people know where you are and when you will be back, so in the event you get lost they know where to look.

Being prepared goes beyond telling people where you are; make sure you have something to make a shelter, build a fire and signal for other people.
