DMEA Holds Energy Expo in Montrose

MONTROSE, Colo.- The Delta-Montrose Electric Association held a renewable energy expo for all businesses Friday.

The goal of the expo was to show businesses how to save energy and money, and learn how to become more green.

There were about 15 vendors in attendance.

Experts provided tips on how to keep electricity bills from skyrocketing.

One suggestion is to replace regular light bulbs with LED light bulbs.

"Businesses are a lot different. They use a lot of energy on lighting and motors," said Phil Zimmer, energy services supervisor for DMEA.

"[LED light bulbs] save energy. They save up to 50 percent in utility bills from the lighting and energy it saves," said Matt Thesing, president of One Source Lighting.

Officials say almost 90 percent of applicators can hold LED lights, and the bulbs come in many varieties.

Officials say LED lights use around 20 to 25 percent of the energy and last up to 25 times longer than the traditional incandescent bulbs they replace.
