DENVER- The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration warns of scammers posing as DEA officials and extorting victims out of money.

Federal drug agents are warning people of an Internet drug scam targeting people who buy their drugs online.

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says this scam is happening to people in Colorado.

The scammers are posing as DEA agents and telling people that purchasing drugs over the Internet or by telephone is illegal and that enforcement action will be taken against them unless they pay up.

The victims are panicking and actually wiring money overseas.

According to the DEA, people who buy their drugs online should have a prescription and make sure the seller is a certified pharmacist.

If you or someone you know is receiving phone calls like this, officials ask that you report this immediately by calling 1-877-792-2873.
