Entertainment Options: Cutting the Cord

Streaming vs. cable: it looks like some people are ready to drop their services. According to a new study by the Consumer Electronics Association, over the next year, as many as 10% of households could cancel their subscriptions, in favor of watching videos and shows online.

The USA Today article also says entertainment experts also expect Apple to enter the TV market. They say by the company looking into a possibility of adding an HDTV set, the company could lure customers away from traditional cable. They say that's because it connects home, cable, music storage and DVR all in one.

Cablevision, the parent company of local provider Optimum, issued a statement to NewsChannel 5. The statement by Jim Maiella, VP, Media Relations at Cablevision reads, "Optimum delivers extraordinary and unique value to our cable television customers in the Grand Junction area." The statement goes on to read, "We believe strongly in our ability to deliver value, service, convenience and the best content in a competitive environment."

When Optimum took over, they canceled the bresnan.net e-mail accounts with zero warning. "Oops, you should have received notice, sorry". When my mothers (who's on oxygen) phone, cable and internet quit working, they promised to have someone out in the next 24 hours but they'd be courteous enough to call 20 minutes before arriving. Who are you going to call? The phone is out of service....PS, no credit can be issued, it was only out for 30 hours. When something happened to her phone with bresnan, they was on the spot getting it going again, one time they even had a tech out at 10PM working on it. It seems those days are long gone. Since I now have to get her a cell phone for emergencies, we are dropping Optimum and will get her the internet and TV services elsewhere.
