VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope Benedict says, ``To love the church means also to have the courage to take difficult, painful decisions.''

Benedict spoke to thousands today as he made his final public appearance in St. Peter's Square.

The pope was given a thundering applause and took a long victory lap around the square in an open-sided car.

The pope resigns tomorrow.

Religious folks tend to hold the pope in a position of great reverence, similar to what you think of Obummer and Moochell. It will be a shame to see the pope go, but I understand his reasoning. It is indeed a great thing when a leader understands he can no longer run an organization. Pity Obummer and the gaff-o-matic cannot reach that same conclusion.
