DELTA, Colo.- A two-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near mile marker 54 turned deadly Tuesday.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, officials received a call about an accident around 2:30 p.m.

Officials say 26-year-old Anthony Abachiche of Delta was heading eastbound when his Volkswagen Passat lost control on the wet road and hit the median, forcing the car to skid toward oncoming westbound traffic.

Abachiche's Passat was hit on the driver's side by 25-year-old Mitchel Dietrich of Grand Junction, who was in his Dodge pickup truck.

Abachiche died at the scene.

Dietrich received only minor injuries and was not sent to the hospital.

Lanes heading westbound on Highway 50 were temporarily closed while crews investigated the scene.
