Officials Decry Restrictions to Save Bird

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. County commissioners and business representatives from all over the Western Slope met in Rifle Thursday afternoon to publicly denounce the Bureau of Land Management's restrictions on land use to save the greater sage grouse.
The sage grouse is a bird that naturally resides in our area of Colorado.
The B.L.M has made it official that this bird's habitat must not be excessively disturbed, but regional businesses are saying the restrictions are arbitrary and burdensome.
They called upon Governor Hickenlooper to step in and open up restricted land for private use.
In response, the governor's office released a statement urging the B.L.M to reach an agreeable solution. Hickenlooper says the state is preparing comments that will feature two alternatives that provide protection for the sage grouse while not infringing on existing economic activities.
