Coroner Identifies Man Killed in Gunfight with Police
MESA COUNTY, Colo. - The Mesa County Coroner's Office has identified the man involved in a deadly shooting with Fruita police officers as 61-year-old Lewis Pollard of Fruita. According to the Fruita Police Department, Pollard fled in his car after being pulled over during a routine traffic stop. Fruita Police Chief Mark Angelo says the chase ended near the 100 block of Holly Berry Way when three officers shot and killed Pollard. Chief Angelo did not say how gunfire erupted, only that the man appeared to be armed. No police officers were harmed during the gunfight and the investigation is on-going. The Mesa County Coroner's Office has ruled Pollard's cause of death as multiple gun shot wounds.
