"Cool Art for Warmth" Raises Money for Homeless

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Despite the cold, local artists and performers gathered on the streets of downtown Grand Junction Saturday afternoon, raising money for the homeless.

The event was called "Cool Art for Warmth" and featured artists, musicians and poets.

The public was invited to come enjoy the art for free. Donations were encouraged, 100 percent of all funds raised will go to Homeward Bound Homeless Shelter, to help out the needy in the valley.

Organizer of the event, Maya Nichols, said, "I just thought that it would be a great way to raise some money for some kind of a charity. And with how cold this winters been I thought, 'how about I do a homeless shelter?' So I started researching homeless shelters and found that we pretty much only have one, so it made the decision pretty easy."

Nichols says the event also served to demonstrate the creative process, rather than just display the finished product.

The community event was held on Colorado Avenue between Second and Third Street.
